AMBER DAVIES: I am the current president of CUPS and was the VP from 2013-14 in its founding year. I've been committed to the society since the beginning and love working with the committee with the aim to accomplish our potential as a society. I'm so proud of what we've done so far, and I know our strengths and our weaknesses. I'd love to spend my last year at university as CUPS president and set up a stable framework to ensure that the society continues to flourish under different future committees.18

Question #2
VICE PRESIDENT

MEGHAN DOHERTY: I am a second year medical student and also current secretary of CUPS. I have thoroughly enjoyed the past year on committee and being involved with the organisation and running of the society. The committee as a whole have achieved so much this year and I would love to continue to be part of it for another year as your VICE PRESIDENT! Having been secretary for the past year means that I am familiar with how the society runs as a whole, the current volunteering opportunities available, the demand and interest areas across the different healthcare students for symposiums and teaching sessions and the fundraising opportunities that have worked well. I am an extremely organised person, very approachable, a team player, a good listener and more importantly have a passion for paediatrics. I think I could make a great VP for CUPS and help take the society forward into its 3rd year! 18
EMMA RENGASAMY: I'm Emma, a 2nd year medical student. I am really interested in Paediatrics, love working with children and I would love the chance to take more of an active role in Paediatric society. I have been to some of the talks organised this year and have found them really interesting. I am keen to apply for the charity representative position as I think it would be great opportunity to contribute to the society and the events. I have been lucky to been able to be involved in different things which I believe would really help me in this role: from being a Student Senator with the Student Union council to volunteering at Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital as a Charity Ambassador representing the charity as well as volunteer play activity leader. These experiences have taught me so much and I would love to be able to contribute to help organise equally brilliant events next year and raise even more awareness of the interesting things that Paediatric Society does so that even more students can get involved0

Question #6
VOLUNTEERING REP

ANDREA DJOLOVIC: I am Andrea, an MSc Genetic Counselling student and I want to make sure that your next academic year is stress-free, rewarding and CV building. I have a personal interest in volunteer opportunities in many different sectors: childhood disability, paediatric genetic services, parent support groups and raising awareness initiatives. In my short time in Cardiff, I've gotten involved with many different organizations across these sectors, and I am therefore kept up to date on services and their needs for volunteers. This past year, I registered for the CUPS Storytime Pilot scheme and completed the long and thorough training and checks for NHS volunteers. As this was the pilot year, not many students had the opportunity to take part. If I am elected as Volunteer Coordinator, I will ensure that more spaces are allocated for the Storytime scheme and that the process to volunteer is clearly outlined to those interested at the start of the year. I will also insure that new volunteer opportunities come available throughout the year, so members can dedicate to long term volunteer opportunities or one off events, whichever they prefer. The best thing about Cardiff University is that there is something for everyone, but sometimes university life is too busy and moves too quickly that we don’t get to take advantage of all that is offered. Vote for me I will bring the volunteer opportunities to you.18

I would love to be events coorindator for CUPS for a second year running because I have a vast number of new ideas for next year especially after the great success of the RND Quiz. I am passionate for the society to drive forward to be bigger and better than this year and I feel that I can help CUPS to achieve this.18

Question #8
PHARMACY REP

FEMI OMOTADE: When I first heard about this society and the position available, I instantly thought that I will be well suited not only to the role but to the society itself. This is firstly due to my love of pediatrics. There is something unique about working with children as I have experienced in the past whilst being a primary school teaching assistant. I can be their teacher and their comforter as well as have the opportunity to be goofy and childlike. There is also a resilience and discipline that comes along with working with children, which will not only benefit this role as a pharmacy rep but can be incorporated into all aspects of life. With the role of the pharmacist ever changing in society, I feel that it would be important for me to be the voice for my course to show the vast amount of opportunities available to us. More so, I have taken on positions of responsibility in the past (such as being a BPSA - British Pharmaceutical Students' Association - rep for my year) which involved working as team to organise successful fundraisers which is what this role entails. I feel that I would be able to use these past experiences to make this position a triumph for the CUPS.18

MEDICINE REP

JASMINE MORTON: I am cheerful, proactive and highly motivated, which I believe are vital qualities for this diverse and exciting role in the CUPS committee. As CUPS Secretary, I would allow smooth communication throughout the society and I am dedicated to putting energy into maintaining the quality of each meeting, symposium and promotional event.3
CAITLIN PEERS: I’d love to be Medicine Rep for CUPS this year as I’ve really enjoyed attending various talks and symposia held by the society this year. I’d like to get more involved in organising events like the Red Nose day quiz and other charity events. Attending CUPS events this year has really sparked an interest in paediatrics and I’d love to take this further by being a member of the committee. I’m more than happy to contact doctors and professionals to organise talks and symposia for the society. I would enjoy spending time organising events and promoting the society to medics in all years through various methods including via medics clubs and societies. I’d be active and reliable member of the committee, attending meetings and symposia and working hard to support CUPS.14

Question #10
OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY REP

HANNAH CARROLL: I am currently a second year Occupational Therapy student at Cardiff University with a keen interest in Paediatric practice and a range of personal, work and placement experience to bring to the CUPS team. I have attended some of the CUPS events this academic year and have been very impressed with the quality of the speakers and information available to supplement our studies. I always feel proud when Occupational Therapy is represented at CUPS events as I think it is part of our duty as Occupational Therapy students and future Occupational Therapists to let the rest of the world know, starting with other Healthcare and Medical professionals, what Occupational Therapy actually is, as there seems to be a lot of misconception out there. Through my training I feel I have developed an excellent understanding of and passion for Occupational Therapy as a career, but I want to become more of an active contributor to publicising the profession and how we as Occupational Therapists can collaborate with other professionals to offer patients a Multi-disciplinary treatment experience, particularly in paediatric settings. I have always enjoyed working with children and have experience in teaching Maths, English and Dance to children from 3 – 18 years of age. Although I have not yet had a Paediatric placement it is something I have requested and I have sought opportunity to advance my Paediatric skills through attending CUPS events such as the Mental Health and Obesity symposiums, externally organised paediatric events, visiting a tier 4 CAMHS unit and training for a Global Opportunities Centre teaching volunteering project which I will complete in Cambodia over July 2015. As Occupational Therapy representative for CUPS for the upcoming academic year I would offer; my time and commitment to the society, new ideas, creativity and organisational skills, a keen interest in promoting Occupational Therapy within society activities, access to a network of professionals who could be consulted about training opportunities and speaking at events. On a personal note I would be interested in exploring fundraising ideas, improving my confidence with public speaking and promoting society events around University and in social media. I am a friendly and approachable person and would work well with the CUPS team, I am enthusiastic about my training and chosen career, and hope to work in Paediatrics in the future so would love to be involved with the society in this role.18
